Tell Bridgeport City Council: Pass the “Protection for Bridgeport Families and Immigrants” Ordinance!

Our city has a large immigrant community that lives in fear of what a Trump presidency will mean for them and their families.

For years, Make The Road has been fighting to ensure that our immigrant community in Bridgeport can live in safety and dignity. After years of fighting, we are so close to achieving victory!

Fight Back Committee members have worked with Bridgeport Council Member Marcus Brown to introduce a City Ordinance called “Protection for Bridgeport Families and Immigrants” in the Bridgeport City Council. It must now first be passed by the Ordinance Committee and then by the full Bridgeport City Council.

Passing this ordinance will mean that: Bridgeport Police Dept must comply with the TRUST Act, must train its members on the TRUST Act, and must be committed to helping victims of crime seek help regardless of immigration status. In addition, it will also prohibit Bridgeport Police and City Employees from asking or requiring immigration status unless required by federal law, and it will require the City to take steps to ensure language accessibility for all Bridgeport residents.

With this ordinance, the City of Bridgeport and its leadership has finally moved from empty words and promises to true action. Now we must hold them accountable.

SIGN BELOW AND TELL OUR CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS - VOTE YES ON THE  “PROTECTION FOR BRIDGEPORT FAMILIES AND IMMIGRANTS” ORDINANCE

____

Ahora debemos hacerlos responsables.

FIRME NUESTRA PETICIÓN AQUÍ Y DIGA A NUESTROS MIEMBROS DEL CONSEJO DE LA CIUDAD - VOTE SÍ A LA ORDENANZA DE “PROTECCIÓN PARA LAS FAMILIAS Y LOS INMIGRANTES DE BRIDGEPORT”

I work in Bridgeport and I know that the people are fearful… and that stops them from contact with all sorts of city dept./agencies, which can cause problems for all the residents. (e.g. reporting crime)
