OUR JOURNEY: 10 YEARS OF IMPACT

Since its founding, Make the Road Connecticut (MRCT) has grown from small meetings in basements, where members gathered to share their struggles, to a powerful movement with two offices, hundreds of members, and a dedicated team of organizers and advocates. Over the past decade, we have fought for workers' rights, immigrant justice, housing protections, education equity, and access to healthcare, securing transformative victories that uplift our communities.

This timeline highlights the key moments that have shaped MRCT into what it is today, a force for justice, resilience, and change. Join us in reflecting on our journey and continuing the fight for a more just and equitable Connecticut!

What Members Say...

"I am a person who likes to learn and I believe that [MRCT] is the best place to do so." - Erika Andrade, Member Leader

LOOKING FORWARD:
THE NEXT 10 YEARS

For the past decade, Make the Road Connecticut (MRCT) has stood with immigrant and working-class communities, building power, demanding justice, and creating lasting change. As we look toward the future, we remain committed to deepening our impact and expanding our fight for dignity and equity.

In the next decade, MRCT envisions a Connecticut where every person, regardless of immigration status, race, or income, has access to affordable housing, quality education, fair wages, and healthcare. We will continue to grow our membership, strengthen our organizing strategies, and push for policies that put people first. Through leadership development, direct action, and coalition-building, we will ensure that our communities not only have a voice but also the power to shape their own futures.

We will leave you with the words of some of our staff and the question of how you can take bold action in solidarity with our members and leaders today, this week, this month, or this year. Thank you for stepping up.

Helen: Democracy in our country is at great risk. Furthermore, voter turnout in local and municipal elections in Connecticut is very low. MRCT is working to strengthen democracy, increase civic participation, and educate voters about the importance of getting out and voting. There are many ways that each of our state's residents can contribute to our civic work. Become a volunteer, donor, or supporter of MRCT; together we can combat the threats and attacks on freedom and the violation of the basic civil rights of every human being.

Marlis: I ask donors and allies to continue investing in our grassroots efforts. Financial support allows us to expand our outreach, and continue to provide the much needed resources for our members. By contributing to our work, donors directly help elevate the voices of the communities that need them the most and help us advance the critical policies that our communities are fighting for.

Teresa: I would ask for solidarity. The work is more challenging when we work against a system that wasn’t created for our community's benefit. Our community has many intergenerational and institutional traumas, and healing takes time. But the result is beautiful and powerful and creates a more sustainable leadership. For me, there are very powerful humans with stories that will change all our lives, but we should be more intentional in how we look for them. I want to create the conditions so that leaders from my community can lead soon in positions of power and not just be seen as someone holding a banner. We need your support to get there.
